California does require that all vehicles that are operated in public lands must be registered with the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). The registration fee is $50 per vehicle and is valid for a two year period. Contact the DMV or your local ATV dealer for this permit.

Non-Resident Permit: You will need to purchase a special "Nonresident OHV Permit" if you are not a California resident AND your off-highway vehicle or snowmobile is not registered in your home state. Your state's plate or sticker must be clearly visible on the vehicle. To find out where these Nonresident OHV Permits can be purchased and to get more information on the program, please contact a local Ranger or contact the OHMVR Division at:  Jamboree Nonresident Permit - Vendor List (PDF) - as of 10/29/07
